Hot Air Balloon Safari — Serengeti
The Bucket-List Experience
A hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti is widely considered one of the most extraordinary experiences available to travellers anywhere on earth. Lifting off before dawn into a sky still holding its last stars, you drift silently over the grasslands as the landscape below comes alive — wildebeest columns moving like rivers, lion prides stretched out on golden kopjes, and elephants making their morning journey to water.
What to Expect
Flights launch at first light (typically 6:00–6:30am) and last approximately 60–90 minutes depending on wind conditions. The balloon carries 8–16 passengers plus a pilot. Height varies from treetop level to 1,000+ feet. The flight concludes with a champagne breakfast served in the field, followed by a game drive back to camp.
The Science of Silence
Unlike a game drive vehicle, a balloon makes virtually no noise. Animals below show no alarm reaction — you observe completely natural behaviour from a perspective no land vehicle can achieve. This is particularly powerful during calving season (January–February) when the herds are densely concentrated on the southern plains.
